The college basketball scene has experienced a whirlwind of changes in these early weeks. With unexpected upsets and standout performances, the first part of the season has been nothing short of thrilling.
As we approach another week filled with exciting matchups, Tuesday's schedule showcases two captivating games that could significantly impact the trajectory of the season. What better way to celebrate than by making some college basketball picks?
College Basketball Predictions & Overview Today, 12/3
Syracuse and Tennessee are set to face off, bringing together two historic programs. Under Adrian Autry's leadership, the Orange are eager to pull off a big upset and demonstrate their readiness to compete in the ACC.
On the other hand, Tennessee is looking to maintain their strong momentum and establish themselves as a leading force in the SEC. Another game features Kentucky going up against Clemson. The Wildcats, much like the Volunteers, are keen to extend their impressive start.
Meanwhile, Clemson is determined to pull off an upset against the formidable Wildcats and make a mark in the ACC. As we dive into the specifics of these matchups, we’ll examine the difference-making factors that will determine the outcomes and share our top college basketball predictions for the evening!
Syracuse vs. #7 Tennessee Predictions & Picks
Tennessee has one of the strongest defenses in the nation, ranking second in points allowed (54.7 PPG) and first in opponent field goal percentage (33.6%). In contrast, Syracuse has a high-scoring offense at 80.8 PPG but struggles with efficiency, especially in three-point shooting (27%, 347th in the nation).
To me, that makes betting on the under 145.5 the most attractive option, as Tennessee can control the game's pace and limit scoring chances. The Volunteers’ offense, featuring Zakai Zeigler (11.7 PPG, 7.9 APG) and Jonas Aidoo (62.2% FG), complement their strong defense well.
On the other hand, Syracuse depends on Judah Mintz (19.8 PPG) and has a strong rebounding advantage (47.2 RPG, 3rd in the nation), but their poor effort on defense – ranking 334th in points allowed – raises doubts about their ability to stop Tennessee's effective offense.
Expect Tennessee to set the pace, using their defense to challenge Syracuse's inconsistent scoring. The Vols prefer low-scoring games, and the Orange’s struggles suggest a tough, low-scoring contest, making the under 143.5 (-110 at FanDuel) the first of our college basketball predictions today.
#8 Kentucky vs. Clemson Predictions & Picks
Kentucky leads the country in points per game (95.3) and ranks second in rebounds per game (47.7), making them a tough matchup for anybody. With Otega Oweh (15.9 PPG) and Koby Brea (14.1 PPG, 61% from three), they have a dynamic duo currently leading the way.
On defense, their impressive ranking in opponent three-point percentage (24.9%) can limit Clemson's 39.6% shooting from long range, which is their best aspect on offense. Clemson's defense, ranked 30th in points allowed per game (63.0), will need to stay locked in if they want any chance in this one.
Chase Hunter (16.4 PPG) and Ian Schieffelin (12.5 PPG, 11.6 RPG) have been key players, but Clemson's rebounding issues (35.3 RPG) could hurt them against Kentucky's strong frontcourt, led by Amari Williams (10 RPG).
Overall, Kentucky's mix of offensive strength and solid defense should outmatch Clemson's more cautious style, which is where we’re looking to round out today’s college basketball predictions. Look for the Wildcats to control the game and cash the Kentucky ML (-114 at FanDuel) bet comfortably, as they’re easily the Tigers’ toughest opponent up to this point.
