The initial weeks of the college basketball season bring an unparalleled thrill. Although some teams are still facing off against less challenging opponents, it's increasingly typical to witness top-tier programs clashing long before the intensity of conference play kicks in.

These early encounters offer a sneak peek into the capabilities of elite teams and hint at what the future holds for March Madness. This evening, we’re in for a treat as #12 Duke goes head-to-head with #17 Arizona in a contest featuring two national championship contenders!

What should we expect in this electrifying face-off? Let’s dive into our Duke vs. Arizona picks!

#12 Duke vs. #17 Arizona Predictions For Friday, 11/22

It goes without saying that both teams will be eager to get a marquee win early in the season. Duke has already lost to Kentucky, and Arizona has a loss to Wisconsin on their resume.

Going 0-2 in these types of matchups early in the season will more than likely hurt come March, so this is a big game for both sides. That said, it’s time to tap into the Duke vs. Arizona odds and then our Duke vs. Arizona predictions!

Duke Blue Devils: Can The Youngins Keep It Up?

The Blue Devils have started the 2024-2025 season strong, largely due to their talented freshmen, Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel. Flagg is making a significant impact, averaging 16.3 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game.

His defensive skills have also stood out, with 2 steals and 1.8 blocks per game, making him a challenge for opposing teams. On the other hand, Knueppel has been a reliable scorer, averaging 14.8 points per game and hitting 38.5% of his three-point attempts, while his ability to create plays adds depth to Duke's offense.

With these two freshmen leading the charge, Duke is positioning itself as a strong contender in the competitive ACC.

Arizona Wildcats: Looking To Bounce Back

Arizona is looking to rebound after a tough 103-88 loss to Wisconsin. This was their first challenge against a top-25 team this season, and you can bet they’ll be eager to make a strong comeback.

They have a balanced offense, led by guard Jaden Bradley, who averages 14.7 points and 2 steals per game. Caleb Love is also important to their success, pitching in 11 points and 3 assists, but he needs to improve his shooting for the team to progress.

Forward Tobe Awaka has been impressive in rebounding, averaging 12.3 boards and scoring over 10 points. The Wildcats have what it takes to compete with this talented group, but they need to be consistent as they face another tough opponent.

#12 Duke vs. #17 Arizona Money Line: Blue Devils (-108 at FanDuel)

I like Duke to cover the spread and win outright against Arizona in this one. The Blue Devils are solid defensively, allowing only 58 points per game, which ranks 20th in the nation, and they are 6th in opponent field goal percentage at 33.6%.

This defensive tenacity could hinder an Arizona offense that, yes, scores 94.3 points per game, but struggles with shooting efficiency, sitting at 330th in three-point percentage (27.4%). On the offensive side, Duke’s balanced scoring has led them to average 88.5 points per game, placing them 30th nationally.

Although Flagg showed some inexperience in the closing moments against UK, those experiences will prove worthwhile as this one winds down. Duke’s ability to control rebounds and challenge Arizona’s outside shooting are a big focus to me here.

The Blue Devils defensive unit and effective scoring create a matchup that favors them, allowing them to set the pace against a Wildcats team looking for stability. I’m riding with Duke to win a tight one (-108 at FanDuel Sportsbook) for my Duke vs. Arizona picks.
