Burrow Struggling
Bengals beat reporters are saying quarterback Joe Burrow has been struggling in practice, throwing interceptions and hasn't been able to make accurate passes. Burrow is coming off a torn left ACL and speculation is he may be reluctant to go all out this early. There's been a lot of excitement for the Bengals offense and Burrow is being drafted as a borderline QB1. It's a great sign that Burrow is practicing and on track to play Week 1 and the season is still more than one month away. If this causes the ADP to drop, it's good for those liking Burrow. As long as the struggles don't continue, this doesn't seem to be much of an issue.
Golladay Avoids Giant Scare
The Giants were holding their breath when wide receiver Kenny Golladay left practice Tuesday and was grabbing his left leg. The wide receiver signed a four-year, $72 million deal to give Daniel Jones a big target down the field. Golladay had hamstring and hip issues last season and testing on Wednesday showed it's more of a tweak than a strain and no significant damage. He sat out the first two games of last season with a similar issue and the Giants will be cautious.
Cardinals Quiet on Injuries
Kliff Kingsbury isn't into revealing the details of injuries in training camp. The Cardinals coach won't go into specifics since it's not a requirement until the regular season. Wide receiver A.J. Green will miss some practice time with a “minor issue.” Green, 33, is coming off an awful season and is learning a new offense and working with a new quarterback. A few days ago, reports were Green looked incredible. Green had 104 targets last season, but only caught 47.
Smith Seeing Red
There was excitement for the emergence of Irv Smith once Kyle Rudolph signed with the Giants, but a couple of months back Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said he didn't see Smith's role changing much. One thing happening in training camp is Smith being targeted in the red zone. The Vikings tend to run two tight end sets and Tyler Conklin is hurt. Smith will see an increase in snaps and without wide receivers commanding the ball outside of Adam Thielen and Justin Jefferson, there's room for Smith to be a relevant tight end.
Williams Taking Advantage of Chances
Tarik Cohen hasn't been practicing yet after missing last season with a torn ACL. He was seen limping recently and it has allowed Damien Williams to get reps in the offense. Williams, who opted out of last season, is the backup to David Montgomery now and has looked good catching the ball. Williams has been cheap in drafts and a good pick late in drafts.
Deep Sleeper To Monitor
Donald Parham hasn’t been drafted in most leagues unless it's a deep league with tight end premium scoring. He's barely been talked about, but he's a name to keep in mind. Gilbert Manzano of the Orange County Register believes Parham will see an expanded role in the Chargers offense this season. The Chargers brought in free agent Jared Cook, who is 34. Parham is 6-foot-8, but was used mainly as a red zone target behind Hunter Henry last season. He had 10 catches for 159 yards with three touchdowns on 20 targets in 13 games. Parham has been running with the first team.
