Brown struck out nine and walked one while posting a 28 percent whiff rate and 32 percent CSW. Interestingly, it wasn’t the curve that led the way for Brown today but his changeup, which produced a 42 percent whiff rate and 42 percent CSW. One of the knocks on Brown has been that he doesn’t have a true “out” pitch, and while that may be true, as long as one pitch in his six-pitch arsenal shows up every game to complement his fastball, he should continue to produce solid results. He should continue to roll next week against the White Sox.

The 32-year-old has allowed two runs on five hits in 9 2/3 innings while striking out 12 and walking nine. His fastball is up to 97 mph, and he has shown the ability to handle the highest leverage innings. With the Red Sox bullpen continuing to lose one-run games, the team could decide it’s time to see if the veteran can make himself valuable to the big league bullpen.

Schultz walked one and struck out seven on the day. He now has a 3.58 ERA and 33:19 K:BB ratio in 32 2/3 innings at Double-A on the season. The White Sox will be cautious with Schultz’s innings this season, just as they’re being with fellow top prospect Hagen Smith, but it was nice to see Schultz’s command improve in this start. He’ll need a few more like this before the White Sox can think about moving him up to Triple-A.

Scherzer threw a bullpen session last week as he attempts to come back from a thumb injury, but felt tightness in his back after the session. He did not throw on Tuesday as the team had planned, but they are hopeful he can get back on the mound for another bullpen session later this week.

Johnson, a third-round draft pick who last month was listed as a co-starter alongside Jaylen Warren on the Pittsburgh depth chart, was a hyper-productive back in Iowa’s zone-based rushing scheme, a system used frequently in Arthur Smith’s run-first offense. Only three college running backs in 2024 logged more zone rushes than Johnson. Johnson’s goals in offseason practices, according to DeFabo, “are to learn the playbook and earn the coaching staff’s trust with the hope of becoming an ‘every-down back’ sooner rather than later.” That might require Johnson to improve his pass blocking. The rookie said he’s worked on that with Warren — one of the best blocking backs in the NFL — in recent days.

The Week 13 matchup will bring Patrick Mahomes and the AFC champion Chiefs to Dallas for the day’s late afternoon game. It could be a shootout if key players on both sides are healthy. Dak Prescott heads into the season with George Pickens as a legit WR2 behind CeeDee Lamb, and Mahomes — who has talked this offseason about more explosive plays for the KC offense — will have Xavier Worthy, Travis Kelce, Rashee Rice, and Hollywood Brown at his disposal. Mahomes has faced Dallas once in his NFL career, a Week 11 win in 2021 in which he threw for 260 scoreless yards. The hope for both the league and fantasy managers is that the Cowboys are still in postseason contention by the end of November.

Crawford was 0-for-4 with three strikeouts before his liner to left barely dropped into fair territory and plated the automatic runner in the 11th. It gave him his first RBI in nine games. He’s currently hitting .271/.378/.364 for the season.
