Evans is considered one of the top pitching prospects in the Seattle system, and he’s forged a 3.86 ERA with a 23/4 K/BB over four starts and 25 2/3 innings. Evans doesn’t have great swing-and-miss stuff, but he’s going to face a poor Miami lineup that could make for a soft landing spot.

It figures to be a season-ending procedure for Bloss, who hit the minor league injured list earlier this month with a right elbow issue. The 23-year-old pitching prospect came over last July at the trade deadline as part of the Yusei Kikuchi trade with the Astros. There should be an exact return timetable following the surgical procedure.

Montes returns to the majors ahead of Tuesday’s series opener against the Blue Jays with Yandy Díaz heading to the restricted list. The 28-year-old, who has gotten into five games this season at the highest level, figures to occupy a spot on the Rays’ bench for now.

No word yet on the reason for the move. The 33-year-old on-base machine is hitting .238/.291/.400 with six homers, 20 RBI and two steals this season through 40 games. There should be some clarity on his status shortly.

It’ll be Kerry Carpenter at DH and Spencer Torkelson at the cold corner on Tuesday night at Comerica Park. The 23-year-old has caught fire over the last few days, hitting .300 (6-for-20) with one homer and four RBI over his last seven games.

Torrens will get some extra time off to rest and recover after taking a foul ball to the groin area over the weekend. It’ll be Francisco Alvarez handling the catching duties for the second straight game. It sounds like there’s a strong possibility he’s back in the lineup at some point this week without requiring a trip to the injured list.

Rogers has missed five weeks with a strained oblique. He’ll replace Tomás Nido on the Tigers roster this weekend or early next week, but he probably will receive less playing time than Dillon Dingler, especially initially.
