Casey Mize held the Orioles to one run over 5 1/3 innings to pick up a victory in the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader.

Mize surrendered eight hits, but he spaced them out well and helped himself by issuing no walks. He struck out five and finished with a 30% CSW in moving to 4-1 with a 2.12 ERA. Next up for him is a road start versus the Angels.

Mitchell Parker was removed from Wednesday’s start against Atlanta after taking a 107.2 mph comebacker off the left leg.

Parker was lifted from the contest at Truist Park with two outs in the fifth inning after being hit by Austin Riley’s line drive. He finished with six strikeouts and was charged with four runs over 4 2/3 innings before departing. There should be an update on his status shortly.

Roki Sasaki told reporters Wednesday that he pitched through shoulder discomfort during his last few starts.

Sasaki added that the issue wasn’t as bad as what he dealt with last year during his final season in Japan and didn’t directly attribute the shoulder problems to his diminished velocity in recent outings. The 23-year-old phenom added that he plans to use the time off to work on his mechanics. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said earlier on Wednesday that Sasaki won’t require any sort of medical intervention, which includes injections, but will be shut down from throwing for a while. Fantasy managers in shallow mixed leagues can probably afford to move on from Sasaki since he’s likely facing a lengthy absence.

Ketel Marte was removed from Wednesday’s series finale against the Giants with hip tightness.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters afterwards that he anticipates Marte being ready for Friday’s series opener against the Rockies. The 31-year-old fantasy superstar, who homered twice before being replaced by top prospect Jordan Lawlar in the seventh inning, was lifted for precautionary reasons to avoid any potential hamstring issues, which cost him nearly a month earlier this season. It doesn’t sound like a serious concern, but fantasy managers should keep an eye on his status.

49ers signed No. 11 pick EDGE Mykel Williams to a four-year contract.

The deal is worth $24.9 million and is fully guaranteed. As is the case with all first-round picks, his contract includes a fifth-year option. The 49ers shed hundreds of millions of dollars in contracts this offseason and the bulk of those savings came on the defensive side of the ball. Defensive end was an obvious position of need and Williams was widely regarded as the best pass-rusher on the board when 49ers GM John Lynch was on the clock. Williams totaled five sacks in 2024 and left Georgia with 14 sacks across three seasons as a starter.

Spencer Strider (hamstring) experienced diminished velocity during Wednesday’s 65-pitch simulated game at Truist Park.

Atlanta manager Brian Snitker and pitching coach Rick Krantiz blamed recent inactivity while recovering from a hamstring strain for lower-than-anticipated fastball velocity during Wednesday afternoon’s five-inning simulated game. The 26-year-old fantasy ace was sitting in the 93-94 mph range over his final four innings after hitting 96 mph in the opening frame. He averaged 95.4 mph last month in his season debut against the Blue Jays. The club is expected to decide later this week whether Strider will require another minor league rehab start or be activated to start early next week against the Nationals. We’ll have updates on the developing situation as it unfolds.

Vikings signed No. 24 pick OG Donovan Jackson to a four-year contract.

It’s a fully guaranteed deal worth $17.2 million with a fifth-year team option. Minnesota taking Jackson with the 24th-overall pick came as a bit of a surprise on draft night, but the Vikings needed offensive line help and Jackson was considered worthy of a first-round pick by some draftniks. He was primarily a left guard at Ohio State but successfully kicked out to tackle for the bulk of his senior season. Jackson is likely fated for guard duties in Minnesota, but the positional versatility remains a plus.
