Michael Busch is not in the lineup for Saturday’s game against the Phillies.
Busch takes a seat for the first time in Chicago’s last 13 games, dating back to April 9. The 27-year-old first baseman is off to an exceptional start this season at the plate, hitting .295 (26-for-88) with five homers, 16 RBI and two steals through 26 games. It’ll be Justin Turner at the cold corner on Saturday afternoon in his place.
TJ Friedl (wrist) is leading off and playing center field against the Guardians on Friday.
Friedl missed two games while dealing with a contusion in his right wrist. The 29-year-old has performed solidly in 2025 with a .274 average and .741 OPS to begin the campaign.
Steelers beat writer Nick Farabaugh reports the team has called the Saints about a possible trade for Chris Olave.
According to Farabaugh, one source described the Steelers’ inquiry as “a due diligence call” while adding that a trade “doesn’t seem likely to happen” at this time. The Steelers trade George Pickens to the Cowboys just over a week ago, and are now looking at DK Metcalf, Roman Wilson, and Calvin Austin as their top options in three receiver sets. Of those three, Metcalf is the only receiver with notable NFL success, while Wilson effectively redshirted his rookie season due to injuries. Olave caught 32 passes for 400 yards and one touchdown for the Saints last season, but missed nine games due to multiple concussions he suffered. The four-year receiver posted back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons during his first two years in the league, and would provide an immediate upgrade to an underwhelming Steelers receiving corps. Farabaugh reports that in addition to a trade being unlikely, that the Saints do “not seem interested in trading Olave” at this time. The Saints picked up Olave’s fifth-year option last month, and will likely look to extend him in the not too distant future.
Mike Tauchman (hamstring) is not expected to return this weekend.
Tauchman, 34, will be given more time to ramp up after his second hamstring strain. The outfielder could be an option for the White Sox outfield at some point early next week.
The Pirates will activate Spencer Horwitz (hand) off the 10-day injured list before Friday’s game against the Phillies.
Horwitz will get a chance to make his season debut this weekend against Philadelphia after missing the first 40-plus games of the year after surgery on his right thumb that caused pain in his hand and wrist. The 27-year-old should be the everyday first baseman with Pittsburgh, but he offers limited fantasy appeal.
Rays activated 1B Yandy Díaz from the restricted list.
Díaz missed the three games in Toronto because of passport issues. He’ll be back in the lineup as either a DH or first baseman tonight.
Rays optioned INF/OF Coco Montes to Triple-A Durham.
Montes didn’t get an at-bat in his three days of filling in for Yandy Díaz on the Rays roster.
