Rockies recalled C/INF Braxton Fulford from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Fulford returns to the majors just a few hours after being jettisoned to the minors with infielder Aaron Schunk hitting the injured list with a groin strain. The 26-year-old infielder went 1-for-8 with a solo homer in four games with the Rockies after being called up last week.

Pete Crow-Armstrong went 4-for-5 with a homer and six RBI in the Cubs’ 13-3 rout of the White Sox on Friday.

Crow-Armstrong wasn’t sure the three-run homer in the second would stay fair, but the wind appeared to work to his advantage there. It did the same on a popup down the first base line later, and he was credited with an RBI single on a ball that he stood around and watched at the plate for several seconds. It’s PCA’s first career six-RBI game. His previous high was four, which he pulled off against the Dodgers last month. He now has 12 homers. He’s tied for seventh in the majors in that category, and he’s tied for sixth in runs scored.

Cade Horton yielded three runs in five innings Friday in a victory over the White Sox.

Two wins in two tries for Horton. He gave up two homers to Miguel Vargas today, but those accounted for the only damage on a tough day to pitch with the wind blowing out at Wrigley. He wound up with two strikeouts and no walks in the 79-pitch outing. Horton should be in line for at least one more start next week against the Marlins before Shota Imanaga comes back to claim a rotation spot.

Ryan Pressly worked a scoreless inning with a 10-3 lead against the White Sox on Friday.

Pressly gave up a double, but he retired the other three batters he faced. He’s gone without allowing a run in three appearances since his nine-run disaster on May 6. It’s hard to say if he’ll get additional save chances in the near future, but it’s not something being ruled out.

Shane Smith surrendered six runs — one earned — in five innings Friday in a loss to the Cubs.

All of the runs scored in the second, which opened with a single, a ground-rule double and a strikeout. The White Sox brought the infield in with the runner on third, and Smith got back-to-back easy grounders that produced no outs. The tag at home was late on the first play, and catcher Matt Thaiss simply missed the catch on the second for an error. The Cubs went on to break it open from there with a homer, a triple and a double. Smith was just fine over the rest of the outing, finishing with five strikeouts. He’s 1-3 with a 2.05 ERA ahead of a start Wednesday against the Mariners.

Nico Hoerner went 2-for-5 with a double, a steal and three runs scored Friday against the White Sox.

With no homers and just eight walks in 174 plate appearances, Hoerner’s .662 OPS is being carried almost entirely by singles. Fortunately, he does have nine steals, which is keeping him viable in mixed leagues.

Miguel Vargas finished 4-for-4 with two homers and a double against the Cubs on Friday.

Vargas hit .139/.236/.203 in his first 22 games this season and might well have gotten sent down if he wasn’t out of options. Now he’s come in at .351/.422/.622 with five homers and 13 RBI in his last 20 games. It’s going to be difficult for him to produce lasting mixed-league value while hitting in an awful lineup and being a zero in steals, but he certainly is on a roll at the moment.
