Davion Mitchell, Tyler Herro, Andrew Wiggins, Bam Adebayo and Kel’el Ware will start Wednesday’s Game 2 against the Cavaliers.
Mitchell moves into the starting lineup after playing 34 minutes off the bench in Sunday’s Game 1 defeat. The combination of on-ball defensive ability and being able to set up teammates offensively is why “Off-Night” will start, with Alec Burks heading to the bench. The other four starters are unchanged from Game 1.
Rays activated 1B Yandy Díaz from the restricted list.
Díaz missed the three games in Toronto because of passport issues. He’ll be back in the lineup as either a DH or first baseman tonight.
Rays optioned INF/OF Coco Montes to Triple-A Durham.
Montes didn’t get an at-bat in his three days of filling in for Yandy Díaz on the Rays roster.
Kenta Maeda, released by the Tigers last week, is signing a minor league deal with the Cubs
Maeda is expected to build back up as a starter in the minors. He had a 7.88 ERA in eight innings out of the Tigers pen after failing to win a rotation spot this spring.
White Sox selected the contract of RHP Miguel Castro from Triple-A Charlotte.
Castro was acquired from the Astros yesterday after posting a 2.29 ERA in 19 2/3 innings out of the pen at Triple-A Sugar Land. The 10-year major league veteran will be a candidate to handle late leads for the White Sox.
White Sox optioned LHP Jared Shuster to Triple-A Charlotte.
Shuster had a 7.59 ERA in 10 2/3 innings of relief work in his four weeks with the White Sox.
White Sox designated INF Jacob Amaya for assignment.
This opens up a spot for waiver claim Vinny Capra. Amaya was 6-for-62 with one extra-base hit and two walks this season, giving him a pitcher-like .097/.119/.113 line. He’s at .144/.176/.158 in 149 career major league plate appearances, and while his defense is good, it’s not as amazing as it would need to be to make up for that kind of performance.
