Brett Baty’s first homer of the year was a two-run shot off Zack Wheeler on Wednesday.
The homer was hit 113.9 mph, which is a new high for him; he previously hit balls 113.4 mph this year and 113.7 mph in 2023. It’s good timing for Baty, what with Jeff McNeil returning Friday. Baty is batting .204/.246/.352 in 58 plate appearances, making him a clear candidate to be sent down in order to open up a spot for McNeil. It’d only make sense for the Mets to keep him if they intend to give either McNeil or Luisangel Acuña significant time in the outfield.

The three knocks ups his average to .290, and he’s been on fire in the month of May with a .400/.472/,800 slash over his 30 at-bats in that timeframe.
