Jake Meyers went 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored as the Astros fell to the Padres on Sunday evening in Houston.
Meyers led off the third inning with a single and advanced to third before he was ultimately stranded there. He then led off the fifth inning with a double off of Dylan Cease and scored the club’s first run on an RBI single off the bat of Mauricio Dubon. With his two-hit attack, the 28-year-old outfielder is now hitting .305/.354/.373 on the season with zero homers, five RBI and seven swipes.
Kody Clemens hit a three-run homer in the top of the eighth to propel the Twins to an 8-6 win over the Orioles in the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.
A doubleheader sweep. Clemens also had an RBI single before giving the Twins the lead by taking Yennier Cano deep in the eighth. It was Clemens’ second homer in 22 at-bats and 11 appearances since being picked up by Minnesota. The OBP skills aren’t there to make him a quality platoon option, but he has managed 16 homers in 398 career at-bats as a major leaguer.
Simeon Woods Richardson was tagged for six runs in four innings by the Orioles in the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader.
All of the runs came in the third inning, when he gave up a grand slam and a solo homer. The Twins don’t ask Woods Richardson to pitch deep into games at all, so he needs to do considerably better than his current 5.02 ERA. Still, the team has gone 5-3 in his outings anyway, even as he’s won just twice. He’ll probably stay in the rotation and face the Guardians next week.
Cole Sands worked a scoreless ninth for a save in the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Orioles.
Jhoan Duran and Griffin Jax worked in the first game, so Sands got the call in the second and picked up his first save of 2025 and the sixth of his career. Sands has just a 12/6 K/BB in 16 2/3 innings this season, but he’s been successful anyway in posting a 2.70 ERA. He had a far more impressive 85/12 K/BB in 71 1/3 innings last year.
Chayce McDermott yielded four runs in three innings Wednesday in the second game of a doubleheader against the Twins.
McDermott gave up runs in each inning he pitched during his season debut. He’ll head back to Triple-A now after serving as the 27th man today.
Cedric Mullins hit his fourth career grand slam in the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Twins.
He also singled. After a poor stint hitting leadoff, Mullins is back in the middle of the Baltimore order now, having hit sixth today. It probably doesn’t mean much, but he’s just 12-for-70 with three extra-base hits and seven runs scored in 18 games as a leadoff man this year. He’s 20-for-69 with 11 extra-base hits and 14 runs scored in 21 games elsewhere.
White Sox returned INF Gage Workman to the Tigers.
Workman passed through waivers unclaimed after being designated for assignment earlier this week by the White Sox, which meant he was offered back to the Tigers. The 25-year-old infielder was a Rule 5 pick by the Cubs in the offseason before heading to the South Side on a waiver claim. He’ll head to Triple-A Toledo to bolster Detroit’s organizational depth.
