Riley Greene went 2-for-3, drew a walk, drove in a run and scored twice as the Tigers triumphed over the Royals on Friday night.
Greene smacked an RBI single off of Cole Ragans in the fifth inning that increased the Tigers’ lead to 3-1 then came around to score as Spencer Torkelson bounced into a double play. He then reached on a two-out single in the seventh inning and scored on Torkelson’s two-run double. With his two-hit night, Greene has pushed his season slash up to .250/.288/.421 to go along with three home runs and eight RBI.
Evan Carter has been scratched from the lineup Saturday against the Astors.
No reason has been given for why Carter has been removed from the lineup. Sam Haggerty is now starting in center for the Rangers and hitting ninth. There should be an update on Carter’s absence shortly.
Blake Perkins (shin) still is unable to run on back-to-back days without pain.
This would be a problem for any baseball player, but it’s particularly troubling for someone who relies on his wheels as much as Perkins does. The outfielder is eligible to come off the 60-day injured list at the end of May, but it doesn’t sound like that’s going to happen. He’ll be a fourth outfielder whenever he returns to the Brew Crew.
José Quintana is receiving a second opinion on his left shoulder.
Quintana was placed on the 15-day injured list Wednesday with a left shoulder impingement. The southpaw will seek a second opinion; meaning the first opinion likely suggested some sort of operation. Fantasy managers who rostered Quintana should be prepared to be without him for the long haul.
Brandon Woodruff (shoulder, ankle) will throw a bullpen Sunday.
If that bullpen goes well, Woodruff will restart his rehab assignment. The 32-year-old looked to be on the precipice of returning to the Milwaukee rotation before undergoing treatment for right ankle tendonitis. He’ll likely need to make a couple of rehab outings before possibly making his season debut in June.
Pirates activated INF Spencer Horwitz off the 10-day injured list
Horwitz will get a chance to make his season debut after missing the first six-plus weeks of the season. The 27-year-old should see regular playing time at first base, but doesn’t offer enough fantasy upside to suggest he’s worthy of a roster spot in mixed leagues.
Pirates optioned INF/OF Matt Gorski to Triple-A Indianapolis.
Gorski will head back to Triple-A after slashing .195/.214/.390 with a pair of homers in his limited action with Pittsburgh. He’ll get regular playing time in the minors with Spencer Horwitz activated off the injured list to take Gorski’s place on the roster.
