Brooks Lee went 1-for-2 and smacked a solo home run on Tuesday night as the Twins defeated the Mets.
Lee took over for Carlos Correa in the fifth inning of this one and made his presence felt off the bench. After striking out in his first at-bat he walloped a 386-foot solo shot off of Max Kranick in the seventh inning that extended the Mets’ lead to 6-3. If Correa is forced to miss any time with his wrist injury, the door could be open for Lee to see regular playing time in the Twins’ infield.
Rangers’ manager Bruce Bochy told reporters that both Luke Jackson (hand) and Chris Martin (elbow) could be available out of the bullpen on Friday.
The Rangers have been without their two highest leverage relievers for most of the week, so getting either of them back would be a big boost for their series opener against the Astros on Friday night. If neither one makes it back though, expect Shawn Armstrong to be the preferred option in the ninth inning once again.
Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, Jaylen Brown, Al Horford and Luke Kornet will start Game 6 on Friday against the Knicks.
Kornet will start Game 6 after being one of the difference-makers in Boston’s Game 5 blowout victory on Wednesday. He replaces Kristaps Porzingis, who continues to struggle with his fitness after dealing with an illness that first became an issue late in the regular season. How much Porzingis can play is unknown, but the Celtics will need another Herculean effort from Kornet to extend the series to a decisive Game 7 on Monday.
Precious Achiuwa (ankle) is available for Game 6 against the Knicks on Friday.
Initially questionable for Friday’s game, Achiuwa has been upgraded to available. He hasn’t played many minutes in this series, and that’s unlikely to change in Game 6 with a healthy Mitchell Robinson in the fold. The Knicks are looking to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2000.
49ers signed K Greg Joseph.
The 30-year-old journeyman spent time with each of the Giants, Commanders and Jets last season. He’ll serve as a veteran, in-house option should third-year pro Jake Moody look shaky this summer after an underwhelming 2024.
Byron Buxton has cleared the concussion protocol and will be available off of the Twins’ bench on Friday night against the Brewers.
It looked ominous when Carlos Correa landed on the 7-day concussion injured list and Buxton was held out of the lineup on Friday night, but for once he gets a positive injury update and has been cleared to return. The 31-year-old outfielder has slugged 10 homers and swiped eight bases on the season while hitting .261/.312/.522 through his first 173 plate appearances.
Dodgers’ manager Dave Roberts told reporters on Friday that Teoscar Hernández (groin) will start a minor league rehab assignment with High-A Rancho Cucamonga.
It sounds like the Dodgers want him to play in two games there to get some live at-bats, and if everything goes well he would then rejoin the Dodgers and be activated from the injured list on Monday. Prior to landing on the injured list with a groin strain on May 6, Hernández had been hitting .315/.333/.600 with nine homers, 34 RBI and four stolen bases in his first 33 games.
