Jeffrey Springs allowed four runs, three earned, with four strikeouts over five innings in a win over the Padres on Tuesday.
Springs got two quick outs in the first inning before things unraveled. He served up a solo homer to Manny Machado before two hits, a walk, and an error would bring two more runs in to score before Springs could get out of the opening frame at 33 pitches. Springs loaded the bases with no outs in the second, but limited the Padres to one run on a sacrifice fly. The 32-year-old left-hander settled in for three more scoreless innings, falling in line for the win as the A’s gave him nine runs of support. Springs will take on the White Sox in Chicago next Tuesday.
Heliot Ramos went 3-for-4 in a loss to the Diamondbacks on Monday.
Ramos was one of the few hitters who had any offensive success against Merrill Kelly in a game where the GIants were held to just one run by Kelly and the D-Backs’ bullpen. The three knocks ups his average to .290, and he’s been on fire in the month of May with a .400/.472/,800 slash over his 30 at-bats in that timeframe.
