Padres designated LHP Tom Cosgrove for assignment.
49ers signed Brock Purdy to a five-year, $265 million contract extension.
Amed Rosario was held out of the Nationals’ starting lineup on Friday after getting a cut on his leg that required stitches.
Rosario sustained the injury as he ran into a table at the team hotel. Nationals’ manager Dave Martinez called it a “pretty good laceration”. That explains why the 29-year-old infielder is not out there for the Nationals’ series opener against the Orioles on Friday night. He’s considered day-to-day and should return to action before the weekend is through.
Andrés Giménez (quad) is expected to resume running at some point over the weekend.
The 26-year-old second baseman has been sidelined since May 8 due to a strained right quad. He has been increasing baseball activity in recent days though and running at full speed will be the last hurdle that he needs to clear before he’s able to return to game action. It’s unclear if he’ll require a minor league rehab assignment or not before returning to the Blue Jays.
Harrison Bader (groin) remained out of the Twins’ starting lineup for Friday night’s showdown against the Royals.
Bader was pulled from the second game of Wednesday’s doubleheader against the Orioles due to tightness in his groin. He then sat out Thursday’s ballgame as a precautionary measure. He’s still considered day-to-day and should rejoin the Twins’ lineup before their weekend series is through.
Anthony Santander is not in the Blue Jays’ starting lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Tigers in Toronto.
It’s unclear if the absence is related to the bruised shoulder that caused him to miss time earlier in the week or if they’re just easing him back into action. Jonatan Clase will draw a rare start in left field and will bat ninth against Tigers’ right-hander Jack Flaherty on Friday evening.
Tyler O’Neill was scratched from the Orioles’ starting lineup for Friday night’s battle against the Nationals due to shoulder discomfort
The oft-injured outfielder felt the issue crop up in the batting cages a couple of days ago. He’s considered day-to-day for the time being, but given his extensive injury history it wouldn’t be surprising if it ultimately led to a trip to the injured list. Ryan O’Hearn will cover right field in his absence on Friday evening against Mitchell Parker and the Nationals.
