ESPN’s Shams Charania reports the Lakers are waiving Cam Reddish to free up a standard contract slot for Jordan Goodwin.
While Goodwin has been part of the Lakers’ rotation this season, Reddish has not. And with it being reported Thursday afternoon that the former was being converted from a two-way to a standard contract, it makes sense that the latter would be waived to free up space. Reddish appeared in 33 games this season, averaging 3.2 points and 2.0 rebounds in 17.8 minutes. It will be interesting to see if he can catch on with a non-contending team before the end of the season.
Titans claimed Anfernee Orji off waivers from the Saints.
Orji played primarily on special teams in New Orleans but was credited with two starts across 16 appearances. He totaled 30 combined tackles and a pair of TFLs. Orji will need to continue seeing work on special teams to make the Titans’ roster.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Wednesday that Teoscar Hernández (groin) and Tommy Edman (ankle) won’t return until next week at the earliest.
There was some belief that Edman and Hernández would make it back to the Dodgers’ lineup before the end of the week, but there’s simply zero incentive for the club to rush the pair of veterans back too quickly and risk a potential setback.
Ketel Marte hit his fourth and fifth homers Wednesday in the Diamondbacks’ 8-7 defeat of the Giants.
He homered off Jordan Hicks in the first and Hayden Birdsong in the third. it’s his second two-homer game in a week, though he was just 1-for-13 in the four games in between. Marte is batting .262/.377/.554 with an 11/12 K/BB in 77 plate appearances.
Eduardo Rodriguez surrendered four runs in four innings Wednesday in a no-decision against the Giants.
The Diamondbacks scored eight runs in the first four innings, but Rodriguez still failed to win. In fact, the team has totaled 30 runs in his three starts this month with zero wins for Rodriguez. His lone victory in nine starts this season came against the Marlins on Apr. 17. As much as they’d hate to do it with Rodriguez signed through 2027, the Diamondbacks have to be giving some thought to having Ryne Nelson replace him in the rotation. Nelson allowed two runs in three innings of relief today.
Shelby Miller escaped with a save after allowing a run in the ninth against the Giants on Wednesday.
Pitching with a two-run lead, Miller loaded the bases with one out before striking out Mike Yastrzemski. He then issued a bases-loaded walk before rebounding to retire Christian Koss on a fly to center. It’s Miller’s third save of the year. He’ll stay in the mix there for now, but it might not be long before Justin Martinez returns.
Jordan Hicks got just six outs while giving up five runs against the Diamondbacks on Wednesday.
There’s a chance this will end Hicks’ time in the rotation, at least for now. His ERA is all of the way up to 6.55, and it seems pretty obvious that Kyle Harrison can do better than that with the way he’s throwing now. Hayden Birdsong could, too, but the Giants might be less inclined to stretch him out, even if he did get up to 65 pitches in relief of Hicks today.
