Deni Avdija had 34 points (11-of-15 FGs), 16 rebounds, six assists, two steals and five 3-pointers against the Warriors on Monday.

What a game. Avdija, who hadn’t played in two games since he re-aggravated his quad injury last week, couldn’t be stopped against the Warriors Monday. The 24-year-old small forward poured in a game-high 34 points on 15 shots including five 3-pointers. Avdija was also a monster on the glass pulling down 16 rebounds. To top it off, he also dished out six assists. Avdija also played a game-high 41 minutes, showing he’s over the quad injury if his stat line didn’t already give that away.

Casey Schmitt (oblique) went 1-for-3 with a run scored for Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.

Schmitt landed on the injured list back on April 19th with an oblique strain, so it’s been about three weeks before he was able ot get back onto the field. He will likely need at least another week on his rehab assignment before the Giants need to decide if they’d rather have him or David Villar as a backup infielder.

Tyler Black (hamate surgery) will begin a rehab assignment this week.

Black had surgery in late March to remove a broken hamate bone. He will likely need a few weeks on a rehab assignment before the Brewers think about calling him up, but we’d expect him to remain in the minor leagues for a bit longer.

Forrest Whitley (knee) threw a scoreless inning of relief for Triple-A Sugar Land on Tuesday.

Whitley struck out two and didn’t walk a batter in the outing. He should make another appearance or two before potentially rejoining the Astros’ bullpen.

Josh Lowe (oblique) could rejoin the Rays for this weekend’s series against the Marlins.

Lowe went 0-for-4 in Triple-A on Tuesday and is hitting just 2-for-13 in four games at the level. However, all of that is secondary to his health. If he continues to feel good after another game, the Rays could decide to bring him up with the team in Miami, which would likely push Travis Jankowski out of the starting lineup against righties.

The Eagles will face the Chiefs in Week 2.

The NFL’s trickle of 2025 schedule news includes a Super Bowl rematch in Kansas City, where Patrick Mahomes and company will look for a little revenge after getting bulldozed by the Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, 40-22. Philadelphia’s elite defense held Mahomes to a mere 226 yards on 32 pass attempts, with much of that production coming in fourth quarter garbage time. Jalen Hurts threw of two scores and ran in another as Saquon Barkley was held in check to the tune of 57 scoreless yards on 23 carries. If the Chiefs are to get back at the Eagles in Week 2, they’ll have to do a far better job of protecting Mahomes.

Guardians 1B prospect C.J. Kayfus has been playing in right field for Triple-A Columbus.

The 23-year-old Kayfus is the 5th-ranked prospect in the Guardians’ system and is hitting .268/.340/.488 with two home runs in 11 games since being promoted to Triple-A. He has now started more games at third base in Triple-A than a first base, and it seems that the Guardians are trying to see if they can expedite his path to the big leagues since Carlos Santana and Kyle Manzardo have first base seemingly locked down. Kayfus will need to get his strikeouts in order at Triple-A first, but he’s a name to watch for second-half call-ups.
