Cale Makar had the fourth most points ever by a defenseman in a single playoff run.
Makar scored eight goals and 29 points in 20 contests, en route to winning the Conn Smythe Trophy. The only defensemen to get more points in a single playoff run were Al MacInnis in 1989 (31 points), Brian Leetch in 1994 (34 points), and Paul Coffey in 1985 (37 points). As far as the salary cap era goes, the next closest blueliner to Makar was Miro Heiskanen, who had six goals and 26 points in 27 contests during the 2020 playoffs.

The Trophy was much deserved as Makar was outstanding throughout the entire playoffs as he finished third overall in scoring with eight goals and 29 points. Congratulations to Makar who earlier in the week was awarded the Norris Trophy as the NHL's best defenseman.
Cale Makar recorded one goal and one assist in a 3-2 loss to Tampa Bay in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final on Friday.
Makar's eighth goal of the postseason tied the game at 2-2 only 2:31 into the third period. He also set up a goal by Valeri Nichushkin in the second stanza. Makar has three goals and four assists during a four-game point streak. He also posted five shots, six hits and one block in 28:09 of ice time on Friday night.

Makar supplied his 20th helper of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs during a second-period power play for the Avalanche on a goal by Nathan MacKinnon. He has two goals and three assists during his three-game point spree. Makar has amassed 27 points, 65 shots, 41 blocks and 21 hits in 18 matches this postseason.
