Toronto has signed Pierre Engvall to a one-year, $2.25 million contract.

The two sides avoided a potential arbitration hearing by agreeing to a new deal on Sunday. Engvall will get a $1 million raise from his previous two-year, $2.25 million deal. He had 15 goals, 35 points, 154 shots and 66 hits in 78 games last season. Engvall will be eligible for unrestricted free agency after the 2022-23 season.

Engvall is a pending restricted free agent, with arbitration rights, after completing his two-year, $2.5 million contract. He produced personal bests in 2021-22 with 15 goals and 35 points in 78 games.

Engvall played 15:09 in a bottom-six role and was the offensive star for the Maple Leafs on a night they grabbed a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. The unsung hero has been a valued member of the team this season as a bottom-six forward and ended the year with 15 goals and 35 points in 78 games.
