Sam Lafferty has signed a two-year contract extension with the Chicago Blackhawks.
The deal will run through the 2023-24 season with a $1,150,000 salary cap hit. "Sam's speed and up-tempo style is the brand of hockey we hope to see the team play over the coming years," said Chicago GM Kyle Davidson. "He has showcased those skills since we acquired him. Sam adds a dynamic to our roster that allows him to fit seamlessly throughout the lineup and give our coaches a reliable forward that can be trusted in nearly every situation." Lafferty has five goals, 11 points, 69 shots and 101 hits in 45 games for the Blackhawks this season since he was acquired from Pittsburgh.

That was Lafferty's first multi-point game of the season. He has five goals and 13 points in 55 contests in 2021-22.

Sam Lafferty has enjoyed his time with Chicago and is hoping he can stay with them long term.
The Blackhawks acquired Lafferty from Pittsburgh on Jan. 5 in exchange for Alex Nylander. Lafferty didn't get much of an opportunity to play with Pittsburgh this season, but since joining the Blackhawks he has a goal, 10 blocks, and 28 hits in 16 games while averaging 14:38 minutes. "I think anything can happen, but I love it here so far," Lafferty said. "For me, I just have to take care of business on the ice, that’s the most important part. But it’d be awesome if it worked out." Lafferty is playing out the final season of a two-year, $1.5 million deal and can become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
