The Minnesota Wild have acquired Filip Gustavsson from the Ottawa Senators in exchange for Cam Talbot.
Gustavsson had a 3.55 GAA and .892 save percentage in 18 games with Ottawa last season. He also posted a 2.50 GAA and .915 save percentage in 20 AHL contests. He's 24-years-old and it can be a while before a goaltender is NHL ready, so it's still entirely possible that he'll develop into a solid netminder. There's a real chance that he'll enter the season as the Wild's backup goaltender under Marc-Andre Fleury.
The Ottawa Senators have sent goaltender Filip Gustavsson to the minors.
Gustavsson will get in some extra playing time with Belleville as the Senators did not make the post-season. He was 5-12-1 this season with a 3.55 GAA and a .892 save percentage for Ottawa.
Filip Gustavsson allowed four goals on 30 shots in Thursday's 4-0 loss to the Florida Panthers.
It was a tight game heading into the third period. That's when, as expected, the Florida Panthers took over and were too much for Gustavsson and the Senators to handle. Two early goals in quick succession sealed Ottawa's fate and snapped the goaltender's two-game winning streak. The 23-year-old owns a 5-12-1 record with a 3.55 goals-against average and .892 save percentage.
Filip Gustavsson will start on Thursday night against Florida.
Gustavsson has won his past two starts, including a 33-save performance in last Friday's 2-1 shootout victory over Columbus. He has a 5-11-1 record this season with a 3.52 goals-against average and .893 save percentage in 17 appearances for Ottawa.
