Casey DeSmith has signed a two-year, $3.6 million contract.
DeSmith had an 11-6-5 record, 2.79 GAA, and .914 save percentage in 26 contests this season. He served as Tristan Jarry's understudy in 2021-22 and barring an injury or an unexpected trade, that will continue to be the case next season.
Casey DeSmith underwent core muscle surgery on Friday morning, per coach Mile Sullivan.
DeSmith won't be available for the remainder of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs. He was injured in Tuesday's postseason opener during the second of three overtime periods. DeSmith wasn't in the lineup for Thursday's 5-2 loss to the New York Rangers. Tristan Jarry (lower body) also isn't available for the Penguins, so the crease belongs to Louis Domingue for now.
Casey DeSmith (lower body) has been ruled out for Game 2 against the New York Rangers on Thursday night.
DeSmith was injured in Tuesday's marathon match against the Rangers during the second overtime period. Louis Domingue played the rest of the way for the Penguins and helped the team post a triple-overtime victory in the series opener. DeSmith, who didn't skate on Thursday morning, is still listed as day-to-day.
Casey DeSmith (lower body) is still being evaluated and he is listed as day-to-day, per coach Mike Sullivan.
Sullivan added that he anticipates the team will recall goaltender Alex D’Orio from the minors today. Louis Domingue and Rangers emergency backup goalie Reid Robertson were the netminders on the ice for Pittsburgh during Wednesday's practice.
