Dylan Wells

Wells spent time on the taxi squad of the Oilers during the 2020-21 season as well as in the minors with Bakersfield, but he didn't appear in any NHL or AHL contests. He is a pending restricted free agent and if he receives a qualifying offer from the Hurricanes then he meets exposure requirements for the expansion draft. 

Wells played half of the game and did his part to make it a battle between himself and Flames netminder Artyom Zagidulin. Wells went 6-6-0 with one shutout, a 2.84 GAA and a .909 save percentage in 12 games played with AHL Bakersfield last year. He remains, at best, fourth on the goalie depth chart for the Oilers, who will probably begin the year with Mikko Koskinen and Mike Smith tending twine for the parent club.

Following four years spent in junior with OHL Peterborough, Wells will link up with with AHL Bakersfield or ECHL Wichita for the upcoming campaign. At best, the Ontario native slots in as the fourth goalie on the Oilers organizational depth chart, though that's a spot he may need to steal away from Shane Starrett, who logged the bulk of the minutes with the Thunder last season. With Al Montoya and Mikko Koskinen expected to compete for the backup job behind Cam Talbot, the 20-year-old Wells is unlikely to see any action for Edmonton for at least another season.
