Andy Welinski
Player News
The Flyers lifted Welinski (lower body) from IR and placed him on waivers for the purpose of reassignment to AHL Lehigh Valley on Monday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Welinski added a toughness to the Ducks' lineup last year with 47 hits in 26 contests, but he lacked offensively with just four points in that span. There's a chance he's claimed by a team short on defensemen, but he'll most likely land in Lehigh Valley.
Welinski is considered week-to-week with a lower-body injury, Bill Meltzer of NHL.com reports.
Welinski was expected to start the year with AHL Lehigh Valley, but if he's still injured once the regular season gets underway, he'll be placed on injured reserve and remain with the big club until healthy. The 26-year-old will spend most of the 2019-20 campaign in the minors and can be ignored in all fantasy formats.
Welinski signed a one-year, $750,000 contract with the Flyers on Monday.
Welinski split time between the AHL and NHL in 2018-19, notching four points in 26 games with the Ducks while adding 19 points in 27 minor-league appearances. The 26-year-old will likely have a similar role with Philadelphia during the upcoming campaign, so he can safely be ignored in all fantasy formats.
Anaheim reassigned Welinski to AHL San Diego on Friday.
The Ducks will play their final game of the season Friday against LA, so there's no reason for them to keep a depth defenseman like Welinksi on their roster. The 25-year-old will now set his sights on helping San Diego secure a spot in the Calder Cup playoffs.
