Meier will be in the last season of his contract in 2022-23, but he hasn't given much thought to that yet. His plan is to play in the Worlds first, then think about his contract situation. He'll be a restricted free agent once his deal ends, so there's no urgency for the Sharks, though they'll presumably want to lock him up to a long-term contract. He made huge strides this season, scoring 35 goals and 76 points in 77 games.

The Sharks would prevail in the shootout as Meier scored his 35th of the season. Nick Bonino led the way with a pair of goals while Tomas Hertl potted his 15th of the season. Meier is having a career year with 76 points in 74 games.

Meier got all of his work in during the second period, first assisting on Tomas Hertl's goal before putting in one of his own against Kevin Lankinen. Over the course of 73 games played this season, Meier has now posted 34 goals and 75 points. He snapped a three-game goalless streak with his goal on Saturday. 

The Sharks were staring down a shutout until Meier finally saved face for the team with his goal against Jake Oettinger with under 40 seconds remaining in regulation. On the whole this season, Meier has logged 33 goals and 73 points across 69 games played. He had gone five consecutive games without a goal before scoring in each of his last two contests.
