It has been a solid offensive season for Hertl who has 59 points in 71 games. The goal was his sixth on the power play. Nick Bonino with his 11th, also scored for the Sharks who are 29-33-9 this season, good enough for 13th place in the Western Conference.

Brent Burns teed up Hertl who blasted a puck past Mike Smith for the game's first goal. However Smith was perfect the rest of the way and looked really good as the Sharks could not find the back of the net again. Hertl has 27 goals and 58 points in 69 games this season.

Hertl got the Sharks off to a rocking start in the second period as he picked up an assist on Erik Karlsson’s game-opening marker at the 1:08 mark of the frame. The 28-year-old also found the back of the net in the third period to pull the Sharks within a goal (3-2) of the Oilers but they could not generate enough chances to find the equalizer. Hertl finished the game with two shots on goal, a block, and a couple of hits in 20:07 of ice-time. He has 26 goals and 52 points through 64 games.

Hertl came out firing on all cylinders, fresh off of signing his new lucrative eight-year contract. However, the 28-year-old and the rest of the Sharks were stopped in their tracks by Cal Petersen who was phenomenal on Thursday night. Hertl finished the game with a minus-1 rating and six shots on goal in 20:42 of ice-time.
