Linus Ullmark surrendered four goals on 33 shots in Wednesday's 5-2 Game 2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Ullmark let in four goals during a 5-1 loss in Game 1 on Monday. He got another chance in Game 2, but unfortunately for the Bruins, same result. The contest was not competitive, with Carolina scoring on goals by Jesper Fast and Sebastian Aho (twice) over the first 21-plus minutes of play. Those goals went unanswered, giving the Hurricanes a 3-0 lead with the contest only barely started. Nino Niederreiter would score the final goal on Ullmark's line, with that coming in the closing minutes of the second period. The Bruins will undoubtedly benefit by degrees from playing Game 3 at home on Friday, but they have looked far outmatched through the first two games of the series.
Linus Ullmark will play between the pipes in Game 2.
Ullmark stopped 20 of 24 shots in a 5-1 loss to Carolina in Game 1 on Monday, but Bruce Cassidy has decided to stick with him. Ullmark had a 26-10-2 record, 2.45 GAA, and .917 save percentage in 41 contests this season.
Bruce Cassidy would not name his goaltender for Game 2 against the Carolina Hurricanes after a 5-1 loss Monday.
Cassidy could switch to Jeremy Swayman after Linus Ullmark gave up four goals on only 24 shots but Cassidy did not place the blame at the feet of Ullmark. “Well, you need the saves at the end when you’re not scoring, but let’s call it what it is. The 2-on-1 is a great play by them. They executed it. You don’t want to be in that position, but it’s a great shot,” Cassidy said. “The last goal, it wouldn’t have mattered, short side. He’s going to tell you it’s not a great goal to give up but by that point it’s 4-1. We’re not going to put anything on Ullmark. Whatever goalie’s in there for us, you’re going to have to fight to find pucks in this series. I thought it was the same for the other end early on. [Antti] Raanta was fighting to find pucks, there were some rebounds there but we didn’t capitalize.” Stay tuned as a decision is expected on Tuesday.
Linus Ullmark allowed four goals on 24 shots during Monday's 5-1 loss to Carolina in Game 1.
Ullmark made several key saves early on, but he couldn't keep Carolina down. This game was close early in the third frame, as Bruins forward Taylor Hall managed to make it a 2-1 game. Ullmark isn't the reason Boston lost this one, but they could opt to bring Jeremy Swayman into Game 2 on Wednesday night.
