Kevin Fiala's former coach, Bruce Boudreau, thinks he'll shine in Los Angeles.
The 2021-22 campaign was the best of Fiala's career with him scoring 33 goals and 85 points in 82 contests. Those numbers priced himself out of the cap strapped Minnesota Wild though, who traded him to Los Angeles. The Kings wasted no time in locking him up to a seven-year, $55,125,000 contract. That's a huge commitment, but Fiala is just 25-years-old (26 on July 22) and could be the Kings' offensive leader going forward. Boudreau certainly seems to think so. “Maybe I was a little slow to see it, but I thought at the end of my tenure this guy was going to be a superstar,” Boudreau said. “I can see him playing with (Anze) Kopitar and I can see him being deadly as all get-out next year.” Fiala should be a lot of fun for Kings fans to watch.
Los Angeles has officially announced Kevin Fiala's seven-year contract extension.
The Kings acquired Fiala from the Minnesota on Wednesday in exchange for the No. 19 pick in the 2022 NHL Draft and the rights to prospect Brock Faber. As previously reported by CapFriendly, Los Angeles confirmed on Thursday that Fiala's deal will have an average annual value of $7.875 million. He will add plenty of scoring punch to the top-six forward group of the Kings and his acquisition will benefit the power play as well.
Los Angeles has acquired Kevin Fiala from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for the No. 19 pick in the 2022 NHL Draft and prospect Brock Faber.
Fiala had a career-year offensively in 2021-22 with 33 goals and 85 points in 82 games. He also posted a personal best 262 shots, while averaging 17:39 of ice time per contest. According to CapFriendly, Fiala has agreed to a seven-year contract extension with the Kings that carries an AAV of $7.875 million. Los Angeles didn't announce a contract when the trade details were released. Fiala should prove to be an excellent addition to the top-six forward group of the Kings. He will also improve a Los Angeles power play that ranked 27th in 2021-22.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the trade front for Kevin Fiala is reportedly "intensifying."
Fiala is a pending restricted free agent, with arbitration rights, and Minnesota's tight salary cap situation has made him available on the trade market. It is believed that his days as a member of the Wild are numbered with the 2022 NHL Draft and free agency fast approaching.
