Smith's three-year deal with Vegas, which he reportedly verbally agreed to in late June, was confirmed Wednesday on the first day of free agency. "I feel like I've put my heart and soul into this organization," he said on Thursday. "I'm very fortunate that they noticed that and they're giving me the opportunity to come back here and chase the goal we started five years ago. ... There was no doubt in my mind that this is where I wanted to play. You know, pretty much finish out my career here." 

Smith and the Golden Knights reportedly had the three-year deal in place three weeks ago, but needed the Max Pacioretty deal in place to make the deal and stay cap compliant. He had 16 goals and 38 points in 56 games last season and will look to get to the 55-60 point mark next season if he can stay healthy.

Daily Faceoff's Frank Seravalli reports that the deal "may not be immediately announced for offseason/tagging cap considerations." Seravalli added that he is hearing that the new agreement is believed to be around three years with an AAV of $5 million. Smith was eligible for unrestricted free agency after completing a five-year, $25 million contract. He was limited to 56 games in 2021-22 due to injury. while providing 16 goals and 38 points. 

Smith has been out since Mar. 8 because of a lower-body injury, which is reportedly a knee issue. He has 16 goals, 38 points, 150 shots and 55 hits in 56 games this season.
