William Nylander will join Sweden for the IIHF World Championship.
Nylander is slated to be with the team in Tampere, Finland on Saturday. He racked up 34 goals and 80 points in 81 games during the 2021-22 campaign. Nylander also had three goals and seven points in seven postseason matches. His arrival is sure to give the Swedes a big boost offensively.
William Nylander notched three points via a goal and two assists in Tuesday's 4-3 Game 5 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Nylander played a part in each of Toronto's first three goals of the game, assisting on scores by John Tavares and Morgan Rielly into the third period before putting in a goal of his own against Andrei Vasilevskiy to give the Maple Leafs a 3-2 lead. While Tampa Bay would tie the contest up subsequently, Auston Matthews came through with the hero go-ahead goal in the closing minutes of regulation to deliver Toronto to the end win. Nylander is up to five total points this series.
William Nylander posted two goals in Sunday's 7-3 Game 4 loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning.
After two periods of futility against Andrei Vasilevskiy, Nylander hit on goals against the netminder at the 2:27 and 12:01 marks in the third period. Those efforts proved far, far too little, too late, as the Lightning held a 5-0 lead at the start of the period. Prior to logging two goals on Sunday, Nylander had been in the midst of a quiet start to the postseason, having been held pointless in each of the first three games of the series. He will have a chance to add to Sunday's success during Game 5 on Tuesday.
William Nylander had food poisoning the day of Game 1 against Tampa Bay.
Nylander revealed on Wednesday that he believes he got sick from some bad sushi. He logged 15:36 of ice time in Game 1 on Monday and recorded four shots on goal. Nylander didn't appear to be hindered at all, while getting some great scoring chances. He skipped Tuesday's practice for some additional rest and will be in the lineup for Game 2 on Wednesday night.
