Carlson was on the receiving end of what appeared to be a high hit from Florida's Sam Bennett late in the third period of Washington's 4-2 victory. He left the ice quickly following the play, but coach Peter Laviolette said Wednesday that Carlson is fine and will be available to play on Thursday. 

Carlson scored the go-ahead goal (2-1) in the second period on a power play. The Rangers stormed back but the game ultimately holds no meaning as both teams have both been comfortably sitting in a playoff spot for a while. Carlson finished the regular season with 17 goals and 71 points through 78 games. 

The empty net goal sealed a 2-0 win. Carlson set a career high with his 16th as he had 15 goals in two previous seasons. It has been another great season for Carlson who has 69 points in 74 games this season.

Carlson's goal was a beauty, as he looped around the Toronto blue line before bursting into their zone down the left side and scoring. He also assisted on Tom Wilson's goal (6-2) late in the second frame. He finished the game with an even rating, one shot on goal and two hits in 23:05 of ice time. The 32-year-old has picked up points in five consecutive games. Carlson has 15 goals and 66 points in 70 games this season.
