Tom Wilson is "on schedule" to play in December after undergoing knee surgery, per Capitals GM Brian MacLellan.
Wilson's absence will be felt while he's recovering. He's developed into a key player of the Capitals, thanks to his blend of grit and skill. He had 24 goals, 52 points, and 240 hits in 78 games last season.
Tom Wilson has undergone a successful surgical procedure on his left knee to reconstruct his torn ACL.
According to the Capitals, Wilson will need six-to-eight months of recovery time. There was some hope that he would be ready for the start of the 2022-23 season, but that won't be the case. He was injured in Washington's playoff opener against Florida on May 3.
Capitals GM Brian MacLellan believes that Tom Wilson (knee) will be ready for the start of the 2022-23 season.
Wilson would not have been able to return in the playoffs no matter how far the Capitals went because of a significant knee injury. MacLellan added that a decision on whether surgery will be required for Wilson will be made in the next couple of days.
Tom Wilson told the press on Sunday that his lower-body injury was a significant knee injury.
Wilson suffered the injury in the opening game of the series against the Florida Panthers and was unable to go the rest of the way. Wilson said that he does not know if knee surgery will be required and stated that “My summer sucks now.” It is unknown at this time if Wilson will be available for the start of training camp in September.
