Treliving said that Monahan is five to six weeks ahead of his recovery compared to his last hip surgery. The Flames forward sat out the final 15 games of the regular season and all 12 playoff games after he had hip surgery in April. 

Monahan will be undergoing hip surgery and won't play again this season as a result. This is not the same hip that Monahan had surgery on in 2021. It's been a difficult campaign for Monahan with him scoring eight goals and 23 points in 65 contests while averaging 14:04 minutes of ice time.

Monahan spent the last two games as a healthy scratch in what represents a low point of his career to date. He has just eight goals and 22 points in 63 contests this season, down from 82 points back in 2018-19. “I think I can step up in a big way,” Monahan said. “I know I can put the puck in the net and win big faceoffs and be a big part of the team in the dressing room. That’s my goal here.” It'll be interesting to see how he plays tonight, but keep in mind that he's projected to be on the fourth line with Milan Lucic and Trevor Lewis, so the odds of him having a huge game aren't great. Still, he could use the ice time he does get tonight to take a step in the right direction.

Monahan was skating as an extra during Saturday's practice. He was also scratched during Friday's contest. Monahan had 34 goals and 82 points back in 2018-19, but he's been on a steady decline since then. Maybe his time as a healthy scratch will help Monahan turn things around, but given how long he's been struggling, we're not optimistic.
