Rick Nash will see his number 61 jersey raised to the rafters Saturday.
Nash will become the first Columbus Blue Jacket to have his number retired. Nash holds many Columbus franchise records including games (674), goals (289), assists (258), points (547) game-winning goals (44) power play goals (83). Congratulations go out to Nash on having his jersey retired.
Rick Nash will be the first player in Columbus Blue Jackets history to have his number retired.
The team will raise Nash's No. 61 to the rafters of Nationwide Arena prior to a game against the Boston Bruins on Saturday, March 5. "Rick Nash was the face of our franchise and our best player for a decade and represented our club on and off the ice with excellence, class and humility," said Blue Jackets Majority Owner John P. McConnell. "No one is more deserving of this honor than he and we are looking forward to celebrating Rick and his family in what will be a historic and memorable night for all of us on March 5th." Nash is the franchise's all-time leader in games played (674), goals (289), assists (258) and points (547).
Rick Nash has been promoted to the Director of Player Development by the Columbus Blue Jackets.
The Blue Jackets also made a number of other changes and promotions in their office office and coaching staff, including promoting Josef Boumedienne to director of pro scouting. It is a nice promotion for Nash who went first overall to Columbus in 2002.
Nash will make a decision regarding his playing future once his concussion-like symptoms subside entirely, Aaron Portzline of The Athletic reports.
The 34-year-old has yet to officially retire, despite rumors suggesting otherwise. According to Nash, he's still dealing with the same concussion-like symptoms that hampered him throughout the 2017-18 season. If and when he feels 100-percent healthy, the veteran could bring scoring, as well as leadership to any team that brings him in, but he shouldn't be relied upon as a key fantasy contributor.
