Bergeron is still an unrestricted free agent, but Montgomery has apparently had multiple conversations with him in preparation for the 2022-23 campaign. “Ultimately as a coach, what you’re trying to do is push players to be their best individually so collectively we’re as good as we can be, and the thing that I know, after talking to Patrice Bergeron a couple of times now, is that there’s no question I don’t have to worry about what’s going on in the locker room," Montgomery said. TSN 1200 host John Rodenburg followed up by asking if Montgomery is basically saying that Bergeron will be back, to which Montgomery said, "Good try!" Perhaps too much is being read into that, but it certainly wouldn't be surprising for Bergeron to re-sign with Boston. He's spent his entire 1.216-game NHL career with the Bruins.

"My conversations with Patrice have gone well. His recovery has gone well. I suspect coming out of the draft and headed into free agency, he’ll be in a really good place,” said Bruins GM Don Sweeney on Wednesday. "We’re excited that he’s considering playing and moving forward with what we think is a positive mindset. That’s for him to declare when he’s ready to do that. He’s checking off a lot of boxes that give us a strong indication [he’s going to return], but until he decides to go public [with a decision] that’s for him to hold onto." A report from the Worcester Telegram and Gazette surfaced a couple of weeks ago that Bergeron had decided to return on what was likely to be a one-year contract, but that came before the Bruins captain was expected to meet with Sweeney. 

Bergeron had been on vacation amid a report that he intends to return to the Bruins next season on a one-year contract. His representatives declined to comment on the report this morning. However, if he is meeting to discuss terms with Sweeney then perhaps the Bruins will have something official to announce at some point soon. 

According to Joe McDonald of the Worcester Telegram. Bergeron is expected to sign a one-year deal to continue his playing career as a member of the Bruins. Earlier this month, the Boston captain was still deciding on his path, but it appears as though he has made his decision.
