New Jersey has announced the signing of Ondrej Palat to a five-year contract.
As previously reported, Palat's deal with the Devils carries an average annual value of $6 million. He hasn't reached the 50-point plateau since 2016-17 when he accounted for a total of 52 over 75 matches. Palat had 18 goals and 31 assists in 77 matches for Tampa Bay last season. He added 11 goals and 21 points in 23 playoff contests. Palat will probably get a chance to play on the top line of the Devils next year alongside Jack Hughes.
Ondrej Palat has agreed to a five-year, $30 million contract with the New Jersey Devils.
Palat notched 18 goals and 49 points in 77 games for Tampa Bay last season. New Jersey will be just the second NHL team that the 31-year-old forward has played for after he spent the first 628 games of his career as a member of the Lightning.
Kevin Weekes is reporting that Ondrej Palat and the New Jersey Devils are near agreement on a five-year contract.
That will be a nice move by the former Tampa Bay Lightning winger who had 11 goals and 21 points in 23 playoff games as well as 18 goals and 49 points in 77 games during the regular season. Stay tuned.
Ondrej Palat appears set to test the UFA market.
Palat and the Lightning have engaged in multiple contract discussions, but thus far they haven't been able to close the gap. He had 18 goals and 49 points in 77 contests in the regular season followed by 11 goals and 21 points in 23 playoff contests. His solid play coupled with his wealth of postseason experience should lead to him attracting plenty of attention today.
