Lugano HC of the Swiss National League have signed goaltender Mikko Koskinen to a two-year contract.
The former Edmonton goalie was 27-12-4 with a 3.11 GAA and a .904 save percentage with the Oilers this season and 0-2-0 with a 4.02 GAA and .897 save percentage in three relief appearances in the post-season. Koskinen had an okay career with Edmonton but at age 33, his NHL career is over.
Mikko Koskinen stopped 20 of 21 shots in relief of Mike Smith in Game 1 of the Western Conference Final against Colorado on Tuesday.
Koskinen entered the match after Smith, who allowed six goals on 25 shots, was given the hook early in the second period. He gave up a shortly after he took the cage, but he was superb afterward and the Oilers made it a one-goal game in the third following a 7-3 deficit. The Avalanche added an empty-netter to take Game 1 by a score of 8-6. Koskinen has made three relief appearances this postseason, while posting a 0-2-0 record with a 4.02 GAA and .897 SV%.
There is a report out of Europe from former NHL coach Bob Hartley stating that Mikko Koskinen has agreed to play for Lugano of the Swiss League next season.
Koskinen is a UFA at the end of the season and the soon to be 34-year-old is not in line to be a starter in the NHL next season. He has seen action in only one playoff game as he replaced Mike Smith in Game 1 of Round 2 Wednesday, giving up five goals in 53 minutes of action. For the season, Koskinen was 27-12-4 with a 3.11 GAA and a .904 save percentage.

Koskinen picked up his second straight start in two nights as the Oilers rested Mike Smith for the playoffs. The win gives Koskinen a 27-12-4 record this season with a 3.11 GAA and a .904 save percentage.
