Winnipeg GM Kevin Cheveldayoff said Tuesday that he expects Mark Scheifele to be back with the Jets next season.
"Yeah, I do," Cheveldayoff said at the 2022 NHL Scouting Combine. "My exit interview with Mark went well. Again, it was an emotional time for everybody. We asked [our players] to wear their emotions in the exits, and I think they were very productive." Scheifele was uncertain about his future with the team when he spoke to the media after the Jets failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. That has resulted in some trade speculation, but Cheveldayoff has quieted that talk, at least for now. Scheifele still has two years left on his current contract.
Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet said on '32 Thoughts' Saturday night that Mark Scheifele has not asked the Winnipeg Jets for a trade.
Scheifele seemed to be unsure about his future with the Jets after his exit interview. "I just have to know where this team is going and what the direction is and what the changes are going to be, if any," Scheifele said after the Jets' final game of the season. "I have to think about my career and what's going to be best for me. Those are going to be...talks with my agents and everyone in my family (to) figure out what I really want." Stay tuned as Scheifele is one of the better players in the NHL.
Mark Scheifele (upper body) isn't expected to play again this season, per coach Dave Lowry.
Scheifele last played on April 10 due to what's believed to be a shoulder issue. If this is the end of his campaign, he'll finish with 29 goals and 70 points in 67 contests.
Mark Scheifele (upper body) won't play on Thursday.
Beyond that, coach Dave Lowry said it's too early to make any determinations about Scheifele's availability. Scheifele hasn't played since April 10 due to what's believed to be a shoulder issue.
