The Washington Capitals have re-signed Marcus Johansson for one season.
Johansson will get $1.1 million in 2022-23. He had nine goals and 29 points in a season split between the Seattle Kraken and the Capitals. The 31-year-old chipped in with a goal and an assist in six playoffs games with both coming in Game 3 against Florida.
Marcus Johansson scored the game-winning goal and registered an assist in Washington's 6-1 victory over Florida in Game 3 on Saturday.
Johansson had been held off the scoresheet in the first two games of the series. Alex Ovechkin and John Carlson also contributed a goal and an assist each for the Capitals. Washington's other three goals were scored by Trevor van Riemsdyk, T.J. Oshie, and Garnet Hathaway. Nicklas Backstrom registered two assists for the Capitals.

Johansson returned to the Capitals at the trade deadline for the first time since the 2016-17 season and scored his first in his seven games since the deal. Overall, Johansson has seven goals and 24 points in 58 contests between Washington and Seattle.

The Kraken selected Johansson in the expansion draft from the Minnesota Wild as he had bounced around the NHL between New Jersey, Boston, Buffalo and the Wild after he left the Capitals who drafted him in the first round, 24th overall in 2009. Johansson has six goals and 23 points in 51 games with the Kraken this season. Daniel Sprong, a fourth round pick in 2022 and a 2023 sixth rounder are headed back with the Kraken retaining 50 percent of Johansson's salary.
