Jordan Staal plans to play out the final year of his current contract before deciding what comes next.
"I'm going to ride out this contract," Staal said. "Eleven years is a long time here, and it's been special. I'm going to ride it out next year and hopefully finish with a bang and go from there." He has enjoyed playing for the Hurricanes for the past 10 seasons. Staal also indicated that his decision to not seek a contract extension yet isn't because he wants to test the free-agent market.

Staal set up a goal by Brett Pesce in the first period to give the Hurricanes a 1-0 lead. His first goal of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs gave Carolina 2-1 advantage just 33 seconds into the second period. However, the Bruins scored the next four to take the game and even the best-of-seven series at 2-2. Staal has three points in four games this postseason.

The Hurricanes were hopeful that Staal would be available following the morning skate and that will be the case. He has racked up eight goals and 10 points in his past seven appearances. Staal didn't play on Monday due to an upper-body injury.
