The deal is reportedly worth $1.3 million. "Joonas has been a consummate pro during his Blue Jackets career and just two years ago was coming of a season in which he was selected to play in the All-Star Game and had a record-setting performance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs," said Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen. "His 2021-22 season was derailed by injury, but we fully believe he will return to form, and are happy that he will continue to be a part of our team." Korpisalo, who was eligible for unrestricted free agency this summer, went 7-11-0 with a 4.15 GAA and .877 SV% in 22 appearances during the 2021-22 campaign. He missed the final 17 games of the season with a hip injury that required surgery. Korpisalo is expected to be ready for 2022-23. 

Korpisalo didn't play past March 22 due to the injury. He underwent surgery and his rehab is going well. Even putting the injury aside, this was a rough season for Korpisalo, so he'll have plenty to prove in 2022-23.

"This is an injury that Joonas has been dealing with for some time and it has now gotten to the point where surgery is the best option," said Blue Jackets GM Jarmo Kekalainen. "We are disappointed for him as he has worked extremely hard to be able to play, but this is the best course of action." Korpisalo is expected to make a full recovery in six months. He will conclude the year with a 7-11-0 record, a 4.15 GAA and .877 SV% in 22 appearances.

Korpisalo had a nice first period, anyway, keeping the Penguins off the scoreboard while taking a 1-0 lead into intermission courtesy of a Gustav Nyquist goal. The Penguins proceeded to pour cold water on those good vibes, though, hitting up Korpisalo for four unanswered goals -- two by Jake Guentzel -- in the second period and one more in the third period to win going away. Korpisalo entered Tuesday's contest holding a 4.10 GAA in 21 appearances this season. That's going to go up after this shellacking.
