There has been plenty of trade speculation surrounding Gibson this offseason, but he has maintained the position that he only wants to play for Anaheim. On the Kyper and Bourne show, Overhardt added that Gibson "has absolutely no interest in playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs" when the subject was brought up by the hosts.

John Gibson denied the recent report that he's open to being traded.

Gibson said he first learned of the report from his agent, Kurt Overhardt. “All of the rumors that I got in a call from Kurt yesterday are false because I haven’t had a conversation with anybody there,” Gibson said. “None of that is true.” When asked if he wanted to be traded from Anaheim, Gibson said that he wanted to remain a member of the Ducks. It's worth noting that Gibson doesn't have full control over the situation. He can provide the Ducks with a 10-team no-trade list, but if Anaheim did want to move him then they'd have the option to.

John Gibson is reportedly open to being traded this offseason.

It is believed that Gibson has informed the Ducks of this, according to Sportsnet's Nick Alberga, but it doesn't necessarily mean that a trade request has been issued. The soon-to-be 29-year-old netminder was rumored to be involved in trade talks ahead of the deadline during the 2021-22 season. This could lead to more discussions leading into the 2022 NHL Draft. Gibson is under contract for the next four years with a $6.4 million cap hit. He also has a modified no-trade clause that includes a 10-team no-trade list.
