Edmonton has signed Jack Campbell to a five-year contract.
The deal has average annual value of $5 million. Campbell posted a record of 31-9-6 as a member of the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2021-22 with a 2.64 goals-against average and .914 save percentage in 49 appearances. He is expected to occupy the top spot between the pipes for Edmonton.
"Nothing has changed" between the Leafs and Jack Campbell in terms of contract negotiations, per Darren Dreger.
According to Dreger, Campbell and Leafs GM Kyle Dubas met on Sunday. He was told "it was a friendly, but unproductive meeting." Campbell is eligible for unrestricted free agency on Wednesday. There is still a chance that he could sign with Toronto, but other teams will be interested in his services if he hits the open market.
Toronto GM Kyle Dubas said that talks with pending UFA Jack Campbell will continue with free agency just one week away.
"(We) continue to speak with Jack. It's no secret that goaltending is a priority for us," said Dubas on Wednesday. Dubas added that is obviously getting close to decision time for everybody. Campbell is expected to attract interest from other teams if he decides to test the open market.
Toronto has been talking contract with pending unrestricted free agent Jack Campbell.
“We’ve had a couple of conversations,” said agent Kurt Overhardt. “I think it’s been reported that we haven’t exchanged numbers or anything like that. But we continue to have a good dialogue. There’s still so much time. With Jack, obviously he’s really interested in coming back and would be committed to do that. We continue to talk to the club, and we’ve got an open dialogue. Nothing to report other than that." Free agency is set to open on July 13
