Ian Cole has agreed to a one-year contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The deal is worth $3 million. Cole generated two goals, 19 points, 83 penalty minutes, 77 shots, 104 blocks and 110 hits in 75 games with Carolina during the 2021-22 season.
Ian Cole scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give Carolina a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers in Game 1 of Round 2.
Cole was the unlikely hero of the contest when he scored 3:12 into the extra period. The 33-year-old defender lit the lamp just two times during the regular season and he had one goal over 103 playoff matches going into Wednesday's contest.
Ian Cole will serve as a healthy scratch during Monday's game against Arizona.
The veteran has been a healthy scratch on three occasions in 2021-22. He has two goals and 18 points in 71 contests this season. Frederik Andersen, Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Jordan Staal are all out with injuries.
Ian Cole had a pair of assists Saturday.
The two helpers give Cole 14 assists on the season and 16 points in 61 games. While he has little fantasy value, he is most valuable on the ice.
