Erik Johnson's message to his younger Avalanche teammates is to not take this trip to the Stanley Cup Final for granted because you never know if you'll get another chance.
Johnson's roommate when he was getting started was Dan Hinote, who told Johnson the story of when he was a rookie with the Colorado Avalanche in 2001 and they won the Cup. Johnson recalled Hinote telling him that at the time he thought, "Aw, this is a piece of cake. I got here my first year. We'll be back again. We'll do this again, for sure." Hinote never got back there and for Johnson, this is his first trip to the Stanley Cup Final at the age of 34. He knows better than most just how rare this opportunity is and intends to make the most of it.
Erik Johnson drew an assist on Darren Helm's game winner with just 5.4 seconds left in the third.
