David Rittich has signed a one-year. $900,000 contract with the Winnipeg Jets.
Rittich appeared in 17 games for Nashville last season, while posting a 6-3-4 record with a 3.57 goals-against average and .886 save percentage. He is slated to occupy the backup role in 2022-23 behind workhorse netminder Connor Hellebuyck.
David Rittich allowed five goals on 13 shots in Tuesday's 7-2 loss to the Colorado Avalanche.
Rittich had a really tough go of things in the opening frame. The Avalanche came out firing on all cylinders but that doesn't excuse his poor play which contributed to the lopsided loss. Artturi Lehkonen scored the goal (5-0) that ultimately spelt the end of his night as it seemed like everything that the Avalanche sent his way made it to the back of the net. It remains to be seen who will be the starter for Nashville in Game 2.
David Rittich will start on Tuesday, per coach John Hynes.
Rittich was already expected to start, but now we have confirmation. The Predators are putting their trust in Rittich because Juuse Saros is injured. Rittich has a 6-3-4 record, 3.57 GAA, and .886 save percentage in 17 games this season.
David Rittich is expected to start Tuesday night.
Rittich was the first goaltender off the ice following the morning skate, which is usually a good indicator of who the starter will be. He's getting this opportunity because Juuse Saros is sidelined.
