Corey Crawford has decided to hang up his skates.

Crawford took an indefinite leave of absence from the Devils and it seems in the end, he's decided that he wants to call it a career. “I have been fortunate to have had a long career playing professional hockey for a living," Crawford said. "I wanted to continue my career, but believe I’ve given all I can to the game of hockey, and I have decided that it is time to retire. I would like to thank the New Jersey Devils organization for understanding and supporting my decision. I would like to thank the Chicago Blackhawks organization for giving me the chance to live my childhood dream." Crawford is closing the book on an NHL career that saw him win the Stanley Cup twice as the starting goaltender of the Chicago Blackhawks. In the regular season, he posted a 260-162-53 record, 2.45 GAA, and .918 save percentage in 488 career games.

This shouldn't come as much of a surprise. Crawford has missed five straight days of training camp. He has sat out the past three for personal reasons after he was absent from the first two for maintenance. It's unclear when he will be available to return from this personal matter, but we are hoping for the best for him and whoever else the issue is impacting.
