McAvoy is expected to recover in approximately six months, which means is slated to miss the first part of the 2022-23 season. That could keep him out until December. He amassed 10 goals, 56 points, 166 shots, 130 blocks and 156 hits in 78 games during the 2021-22 campaign. 

McAvoy wasn't penalized on the play during Saturday's Game 7 loss to the Hurricanes. Boston was eliminated from the playoffs following a 3-2 defeat. 

McAvoy dished out assists on goals by Jake DeBrusk and David Pastrnak in the second and third periods, respectively. The Bruins had their opportunities on Saturday, to no ultimate avail. The 24-year-old defenseman posted a career year during the regular season, putting up 10 goals and 56 points (both new high-water marks) across 78 games played.

McAvoy is eligible to play in Game 5 on Tuesday, which means he almost certainly will. Getting him back would be a huge boost for Boston. He has 10 goals and 56 points in 78 contests while averaging 24:39 minutes during the regular season.
