Bryan Rust underwent a minor knee procedure recently.
"It was just a cleanup," said GM Ron Hextall. Rust had two goals and eight points in seven playoff games this year. He's expected to be fine for training camp.
The Pittsburgh Penguins and Bryan Rust have agreed to a six-year, $30.75 million contract extension.
After the Penguins were eliminated by the Rangers in seven games earlier this month, Rust indicated that he would like, if possible, to re-up with the Penguins ahead of his impending free agency. Both sides got it done on Saturday, with Rust set to make an average annual salary of $5.125 million across the duration of the extension, which is set to run through the 2027-28 season. Rust posted 24 goals and a career-high 58 points despite being limited to 60 appearances this past campaign.
With the Penguins' postseason run finished, Bryan Rust might have played in his last game with Pittsburgh.
Rust can become an unrestricted free agent this summer. The Penguins have a lot of key UFAs, so it remains to be seen how Rust fits in when Pittsburgh's cap situation is taken into account, but he would like to re-sign. "I'd love to return to the team," Rust said. "I obviously love it here. Pittsburgh is a place I've been for a while and have a lot of memories. Started my family here and a lot of stuff. It holds a special place in my heart. I would like to make something work to stay here."
Bryan Rust scored his second goal of the Stanley Cup playoffs Friday.
The goal was for naught as the Penguins dropped a 5-3 decision to the Rangers, setting up the pivotal Game 7 Sunday. It has been a big series for Rust who has seven points, good for third place in Penguins scoring behind Jake Guentzel and Sidney Crosby who each have nine points.
