Brendan Smith has signed a two-year, $2.2 million contract with the New Jersey Devils.
Smith has four goals and eight points in 45 contests with Carolina in 2021-22. He's a veteran defenseman who can provide the Devils with some grit, but probably won't be higher than sixth or seventh on their depth chart.
Brendan Smith scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 victory over the New York Rangers in Game 2 of Round 2 on Friday night.
Smith opened the scoring at the 15:54 mark of the second period when he jumped into a rush with Sebastian Aho and scored a shorthanded goal. He also had two shots and two hits against his former team in Friday's contest. Smith has three points in nine games this postseason.
Brendan Smith has been fined $2,000 for elbowing Boston's David Pastrnak.
Smith was not penalized on the play during Saturday's Game 7 victory over the Bruins. The Hurricanes defender posted one assist, nine shots, four blocks and 15 hits in the first round of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Brendan Smith (upper body) will return on Tuesday.
Smith missed Sunday's game due to the injury. He has three goals and five points in 38 contests in 2021-22.
